In a music drought. For this writer, it’s right up there with no running and no drinking. What’s a girl to do? Rachael Yamagata’s new album is not out yet, Shiny Toy Guns is nowhere to be found, The The’s new album is barely keeping my musically stimulated soul alive, the 930 Club is lackluster, the Birchmere is killing me, State Theater has a world of zilch, I can’t handle Jammin’ Java’s line up, and even the Townson’s Rechter Theater is suffering worse than usual with the 930 Club’s rejects. No recorded music. No live music. And I have just given up on the radio. Could the sounds be any more preprocessed and cookie cutter? If I hear one more Timbaland song…Seriously, I’m embarrassed to roll my windows down when the radio is on.
Anyone have something good to listen to? I’m in the Sahara for new music, people. Give me some water. I’ll take any suggestions. Except anything that involves the follo

You need to go old school. Listen to some Black Flag, Primus, Alice in Chains, Fishbone. Anything other than the watered-down crap that is displayed now.

Fishbone. Now there’s one that will send me searching to the back of my collection. Perhaps it’s time for a revival tour.

Muscial anemia… me, too. Even WTMD here in Baltimore’s been lame of late (and I just gave them money). I’ve been listening more closely to Alexi Murdoch, as well as Tool and Soundgarden(how’s that for divergent?), and really jamming on old Pink Floyd and Led Zep. Feeling a little psychedelic these days. For new, check out the new Robert Plant/Alison Krauss CD (I remember when she was just a wee kid playing the hell out of her fiddle on the folk circuit….). Happy listening…

I’m on the press list of this record company that keeps sending me awesomely random things like “The Roots of Chicha: Psychedelic Cumbias from Peru” which sounds kind of like latin surf music. Well, I think it *is* latin surf music. It’s totally wacky, but I’m not sure how well it holds up on repeat listens. My favorite world-y album of the last few years is “Dimanche a Bamako” by Amadou and Mariam, but maybe everyone has already heard and is over that. Mostly these days I listen to Elizabethan music that I have to memorize by Dec. 8 (www.revelsdc.org) or U2.

Linda. Props for divurgence. Perhaps a turn around Pink Floyd’s world would help my right brain creativity.
Towwas. How do I get on this press list? And are you performing in the Christmas Revels?

Yep! Come see it!! And I have no idea how to get on that press list. Well, only a very little idea. Step one: be employed by a media organization.

Arcade Fire. Transcendent, folky, with a splash of vocals kinda like Robert Smith, though Win’s voice isn’t as much pop cultures poster child for doom and gloom.
…and on that note, The Cure would be one to check.

Rachael. Morrison. Definitely a smooth evening favorite. Thanks.
Phil. Oh, good call.
Green Fly. Yeah. Definitely a fan of Arcade Fire. Particularly “Rebellion.” Thanks for the suggestions.
