Librarian means First Lady. Right? Laura Bush’s Literacy Breakfast.

AP: 8ef4fd34-5bf9-4dde-9ad9-1217c1b1be66By now, almost every one has heard the story that author Patricia MacLachlan recounted at the White House this past Saturday that unofficially kicked off the 2007 National Book Festival.  (Yes, I’m still writing about it. Deal.)  For those of you that missed it, enjoy.  And if you’ve been under a rock for the past seven years, the National Book Festival is purported to be the brain child of First Lady and former librarian, Laura Bush.

MacLachlan, a children’s book writer, told the story that she recently spoke with a class of second-graders about their future dreams.

“I’m going to marry a president,” a little girl named Isabella said from the back row.

“Really, why’s that?” MacLachlan asked.

“So I can be a librarian,” replied the little girl who apparently knew of Mrs. Bush’s career path.

I feel for Isabella’s Mom.  And applaud Mrs. Bush’s.
